Mary's work has been largely concerned with the moving figure. An enthusiastic swimmer herself, she is well-known for her life-sized "in the pool" paintings.

Mary's landscapes also convey a feeling of restless energy. Although outcomes are semi-abstract and the style expressionistic, her work is rooted in drawing from observation.

Mary works through a range of media and recently her paintings have derived from mono-prints. She is interested in the mark, the gesture, the dynamic. Often a painting will reflect her mood, the way she is feeling.

She generally follows a theme for some time and explores it in a range of materials - oil, acrylics, mixed media, printmaking, ceramics and sculpture.
